What It Is

Bonjela Teething Gel is a topical oral gel formulated to relieve teething pain, gum irritation, and swelling in babies and young children. It provides fast, soothing relief by numbing the gum area and reducing inflammation. It’s designed to be gentle, sugar-free, and safe when used correctly.

 Key Ingredients

Bonjela formulations vary slightly by region, but commonly include:

• Lidocaine hydrochloride – a local anesthetic that numbs gum pain

• Choline salicylate – a mild anti-inflammatory that reduces swelling and discomfort (used in some versions)

• Cetalkonium chloride – an antiseptic that helps prevent bacterial infections

Note: Choline salicylate versions are not recommended for children under 16 in some countries due to a rare risk (Reye’s syndrome), so many regions now use lidocaine-based Bonjela for babies.

 Uses

• Relieves teething discomfort

• Soothes red, swollen, or irritated gums

• Helps babies settle and feed more easily

• Provides temporary relief from mouth ulcers (in older children)

 Dosage & How to Use

• Suitable for babies over 2 months old (lidocaine version)

• Apply a pea-sized amount to a clean finger

• Gently massage onto sore gums

• Can be used every 3 hours, up to 6 times daily

• Avoid feeding or drinking for a few minutes after applying for best effect

Safety & Precautions

• Do not use in babies under 2 months unless directed by a doctor

• Do not exceed recommended doses

• Avoid if your child is allergic to any of the ingredients

• Check packaging for the correct version—salicylate-based versions are not suitable for young children in some countries
