Giving Set

A giving set, also known as an IV infusion set, is a medical device used to administer fluids, medications, or nutrients directly into a patient’s bloodstream through an intravenous (IV) line.

Main Components

1. Drip Chamber – Controls the flow of liquid and allows air removal

2. Tubing – Connects the IV fluid bag to the IV cannula

3. Roller Clamp – Regulates or stops the flow rate

4. Injection Port – Allows for medication injection into the line

5. Luer Lock or Spike End – Connects securely to IV bag or bottle

Uses

• Administration of saline, glucose, medications, or blood products

• Hydration, electrolyte balance, and emergency treatment

• Surgical and post-operative care

Precautions

• Must be sterile and used only once (disposable)

• Monitor for air bubbles, contamination, or blockages

• Requires trained personnel to insert and manage
