Uses / Indications:

• Relief of acute bronchospasm in:

  • common cold and Asthma

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

• Prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm

Mechanism of Action:

Salbutamol stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the lungs, causing bronchodilation (relaxation of airway muscles). This opens up the airways, making breathing easier.

Dosage:

• Adults and children over 4 years:
  1–2 puffs as needed every 4–6 hours

• Maximum dose:
  Up to 8 puffs/day unless otherwise directed by a doctor

Side Effects:

Common:

• Tremor

• Headache

• Fast heartbeat (palpitations)

• Nervousness

Rare but Serious:

• Chest pain

• Paradoxical bronchospasm (worsening breathing)

• Hypokalemia (low potassium)

Precautions:

• Do not exceed prescribed dose

• Use with caution in patients with:

  • Heart disease

  • High blood pressure

  • Diabetes

  • Overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism)

Storage:

• Store below 30°C

• Do not expose to heat or direct sunlight

• Do not puncture or burn, even when empty

Patient Counseling Points:

• Shake well before use

• Use a spacer if prescribed (especially in children)

• Rinse mouth after use if used frequently

• Seek medical help if breathing does not improve after 2 puffs
