Composition

• Each tablet contains:

  • Levonorgestrel 0.75 mg, a synthetic progestin hormone

Primary Use

• Used as an emergency contraceptive to prevent pregnancy after:

  • Unprotected sex

  • Contraceptive failure (e.g., broken condom, missed birth control pills)

  • Sexual assault (as part of emergency care)

Dosage & Administration

There are two ways to take Levon 2:

1. Two-dose method:

   • Take 1 tablet (0.75 mg) as soon as possible (within 72 hours)

   • Take the second tablet 12 hours after the first one

2. Single-dose method (now more common with newer brands):

   • Take both tablets at once (1.5 mg total) as a single dose within 72 hours

   • The earlier it is taken, the more effective it is. Works best within 24 hours of unprotected sex.

Important Notes

• Not for regular contraception

• Does not terminate an existing pregnancy

• Less effective in individuals with BMI over 30 – seek medical advice for alternatives

• Not effective if ovulation has already occurred before taking the dose

Possible Side Effects

Common:

• Nausea or vomiting

• Tiredness or dizziness

• Breast tenderness

• Headache

• Irregular or delayed menstrual periods

If vomiting occurs within 2 hours, another dose may be needed.

When to Seek Medical Advice

• Menstrual period delayed by more than 7 days

• Severe lower abdominal pain (possible ectopic pregnancy)

• Unusual vaginal bleeding

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

• Not harmful if accidentally taken during early pregnancy

• Safe during breastfeeding — minimal transfer to breast milk
