Mucolex Cream

Active Ingredient

• Carbocisteine applied topically in a cream base, designed for local use on skin.

What It Is

A topical mucolytic intended to soften and break down secretions in localized areas, such as stubborn crusts, mucus accumulations, or discharge-like debris on the skin.

Mechanism of Action

• Carbocisteine works by disrupting disulfide bonds in mucus-like substances, thinning them and making them easier to remove or clean.

• Has mild anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, helpful in reducing minor local irritation.

Typical Uses

• Helps manage crusty exudates in conditions like:

  • Dermatitis with heavy discharge

  • Crusts around stomas or wound edges

  • Thick secretions in skin folds

• Designed for external application only and not for systemic use.

How to Use

• Clean the area first, then apply a thin layer of cream over the crust or affected region.

• Leave it on for about 5–15 minutes to soften secretions, then gently wash or wipe off with clean gauze.

• Can be repeated 1–2 times daily, depending on severity and skin sensitivity.

Side Effects

• May cause mild skin irritation, redness, or burning sensation on sensitive skin.

• Rarely, it may trigger rash or allergic contact dermatitis.

• Avoid if known sensitivity to carbocisteine or the cream’s excipients.

Precautions

• For external use only—do not apply near eyes, mouth, or open deep wounds.

• Discontinue if irritation worsens or persists beyond a few days.

• Keep away from children and avoid ingestion.
