Salbutamol Syrup

Salbutamol syrup is a bronchodilator medicine used to treat and prevent wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and other symptoms caused by conditions like asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Uses:

• Relieves bronchospasm in asthma and allergic respiratory conditions

• Treats cough with wheezing in children

• Can be used as a preventive before exercise or exposure to triggers

Active Ingredient:

• Salbutamol Sulfate (usually 2 mg per 5 mL)

How It Works:

• Salbutamol is a beta-2 agonist

• It relaxes the muscles in the airways, allowing the lungs to open up and breathe easier

• Begins to work within minutes and lasts for several hours

Dosage (General Guide):

• Children 2–6 years: 1–2 mg (2.5–5 mL) three to four times daily

• Children 6–12 years: 2 mg (5 mL) three to four times daily

• Adults and children over 12 years: 2–4 mg (5–10 mL) three to four times daily

• Always follow doctor’s prescription and adjust dose by age, weight, and severity

Side Effects:

• Shakiness (tremor)

• Increased heart rate (palpitations)

• Nervousness or restlessness

• Headache or muscle cramps

• Rare: allergic reactions, chest pain

Precautions:

• Use with caution in people with heart disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or seizures

• Avoid overdose—it can increase heart rate and cause serious side effects

• Should not be mixed with other bronchodilators without medical advice

Storage:

• Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture

• Keep out of reach of children

• Shake well before use
