ZINTAB 10 mg

Prescription Status: Over-the-Counter (OTC) in many countries, but may also be prescribed depending on clinical use.

Indications / Uses:

• Treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency

• Management of acute diarrhea (especially in children)

• Support in immune function

• Adjunct treatment in acne, wound healing, and growth retardation

• Supportive therapy in nutritional supplementation

Dosage & Administration:

Adults:

• 1 tablet (10 mg elemental zinc) once daily, preferably after meals.

• Can be increased if higher supplementation is required (per doctor’s advice).

Children:

• 6 months to 5 years (for diarrhea): 10 mg once daily for 10–14 days.

• For general deficiency: Dosage adjusted by weight/age—consult pediatric guidelines.

Administration: Take with a full glass of water, after food to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. Do not crush or chew unless advised.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to zinc or any excipients

• Severe kidney disease (use with caution)

Warnings and Precautions:

• Long-term use of high-dose zinc can interfere with copper and iron absorption.

• Avoid taking concurrently with iron, calcium, or antacids—space doses by at least 2 hours.

• Not recommended in large doses during pregnancy/lactation unless prescribed.

Drug Interactions:

• May reduce absorption of:

  • Tetracyclines and fluoroquinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin)

  • Iron supplements, calcium, and magnesium

• Food high in phytates (whole grains, legumes) may reduce zinc absorption.

Side Effects (usually mild at normal doses):

• Nausea or vomiting

• Abdominal pain or upset stomach

• Metallic taste in mouth

• Diarrhea (usually dose-related)

• Headache (rare)

Note: Chronic high-dose use may lead to copper deficiency, anemia, or immune suppression.

Storage:

• Store at room temperature (15–30°C) in a cool, dry place.

• Keep out of reach of children.
