Augmentin 228mg suspension

Augmentin 228 mg/5 mL suspension is a prescription antibiotic used mainly in children to treat bacterial infections such as:

• Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis)

• Ear infections (otitis media)

• Sinusitis

• Skin infections

• Urinary tract infections

Contents:

Augmentin contains two active ingredients:

• Amoxicillin (200 mg per 5 mL) – a penicillin-type antibiotic

• Clavulanic acid (28.5 mg per 5 mL) – helps prevent bacteria from resisting amoxicillin

That’s why it’s called 228.5 mg/5 mL suspension.

Dosage (for children):

The dosage depends on:

• The child’s weight

• The type and severity of infection

• Doctor’s instructions must be followed exactly

Common dosing is based on body weight in mg/kg/day, divided into two doses per day.

Instructions:

• Shake well before each use.

• Use the oral syringe or spoon provided to measure.

• Give after meals to reduce stomach upset.

• Complete the entire course, even if the child feels better.

Storage:

• Store in the refrigerator.

• Use within 7–10 days after reconstitution.

• Discard any leftover medication after that.

Side Effects:

• Diarrhea

• Nausea or vomiting

• Skin rash

• Thrush (white patches in the mouth)
