FORM: Oral tablet, often white and round

ACTIVE INGREDIENT:

• Bisoprolol fumarate 2.5 mg – a beta1-selective adrenoceptor blocker that helps control heart rate and blood pressure

USES (INDICATIONS):

• Treatment of mild to moderate high blood pressure (hypertension)

• Management of chronic stable angina pectoris (chest pain)

• Early treatment of chronic heart failure, usually as part of a combination therapy

HOW IT WORKS:
Bisoprolol reduces the activity of the heart by blocking beta1-receptors. This slows the heartbeat, lowers blood pressure, and decreases the heart’s oxygen demand, making it easier for the heart to function, especially in heart failure.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

• Usual dose: 2.5 mg once daily, taken with or without food

• May be adjusted by a doctor depending on condition and response

• Swallow whole with water at the same time each day

• Do not stop taking suddenly; taper gradually under supervision

SIDE EFFECTS:

• Common: tiredness, slow heart rate, dizziness, headache

• Occasional: sleep disturbances, nausea, cold extremities

• Rare: worsening of heart failure or asthma in sensitive individuals

PRECAUTIONS:

• Use with caution in patients with asthma, diabetes, or kidney/liver issues

• Monitor heart rate, blood pressure, and signs of worsening heart function

• Avoid alcohol and sudden posture changes to reduce dizziness

• Not usually recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor
