PRODUCT NAME: Bisoprolol 5 mg Tablet
CATEGORY: Beta-blocker (selective beta1-adrenoceptor antagonist)
FORM: Oral tablet, usually white and round

ACTIVE INGREDIENT:

• Bisoprolol fumarate 5 mg – a cardioselective beta-blocker that reduces heart rate and blood pressure

USES (INDICATIONS):

• Treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension)

• Management of chronic stable angina (chest pain)

• Long-term treatment of chronic heart failure, often in combination with other drugs

HOW IT WORKS:
Bisoprolol blocks beta1 receptors in the heart, leading to a slower heart rate and reduced force of contraction. This helps lower blood pressure, reduce chest pain, and decrease the heart’s oxygen demand, easing the workload on the heart.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

• Hypertension/Angina: Usual adult dose is 5 to 10 mg once daily

• Heart Failure: Start at 1.25 mg and gradually increase under supervision

• Swallow with water at the same time each day, with or without food

• Do not stop suddenly; taper down if discontinuing

SIDE EFFECTS:

• Common: fatigue, slow heartbeat, dizziness, cold hands and feet

• Less common: sleep disturbances, shortness of breath, depression

• Rare: allergic reactions, worsening of asthma or heart failure in sensitive individuals

PRECAUTIONS:

• Use with caution in patients with asthma, diabetes, or kidney/liver impairment

• Monitor heart rate and blood pressure regularly

• Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed

• Avoid sudden withdrawal as it may worsen heart problems
