Composition (Typical Ingredients)

  • Magnesium hydroxide: neutralizes excess stomach acid

  • Calcium carbonate: acts quickly to buffer acid and soothe the stomach lining

Mechanism of Action

  • The antacid components (magnesium and calcium compounds) neutralize gastric acid, reducing acidity in the stomach.

  • Simethicone acts as an anti-foaming agent to relieve gas and bloating by reducing surface tension of gas bubbles in the gut.

Dosage & Administration

  • Adults: 5–10 ml (1–2 teaspoons) after meals and at bedtime, or as prescribed.

  • Common: Constipation (from calcium), diarrhea (from magnesium), chalky taste

  • Occasional: Nausea, stomach cramps, or black stools

  • Rare: Electrolyte imbalance or kidney issues with prolonged use


Warnings & Precautions

  • Avoid in people with kidney problems, hypercalcemia, or low phosphate levels

  • May interact with other medications by reducing their absorption (e.g., iron supplements, tetracyclines, ciprofloxacin, thyroid meds) — take other medicines at least 2 hours apart
