Metoclopramide Tablet

Metoclopramide is a prokinetic and antiemetic medication. It enhances the movement of the stomach and intestines and blocks nausea signals in the brain.

Uses:

• Treatment of nausea and vomiting (due to illness, medication, or surgery)

• Relief of gastroparesis (delayed stomach emptying), especially in diabetic patients

• Management of acid reflux and indigestion

• Sometimes used before radiologic examinations of the stomach

How It Works:

• It blocks dopamine receptors in the brain’s chemoreceptor trigger zone to prevent nausea

• Increases muscle contractions in the upper digestive tract, helping to empty the stomach faster

Common Side Effects:

• Drowsiness or fatigue

• Restlessness or agitation

• Diarrhea

• Muscle spasms or involuntary movements (especially with prolonged use)

Warnings & Precautions:

• Not recommended for long-term use due to risk of extrapyramidal symptoms (like tremors or tics)

• Use with caution in elderly, children, and patients with neurological disorders

• Avoid alcohol and other sedatives while on this medication

Dosage:

• Usually 10 mg, taken 3 times daily before meals

• Dosage may vary based on condition and doctor’s advice
