Indications / Uses:

• Short-term relief of nasal congestion due to:

  • Common cold

  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)

  • Sinusitis

  • Upper respiratory infections

How It Works:

Xylometazoline acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the nasal blood vessels, causing vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels).
This reduces nasal swelling, allowing easier airflow and relieving congestion within minutes.

Dosage & Administration:

• Adults and children over 12 years:

  • 1 spray in each nostril

  • Up to 3 times daily

  • Do not exceed 3 sprays per nostril in 24 hours

• Instructions:

  1. Blow nose gently

  2. Hold the bottle upright

  3. Spray while inhaling lightly

  4. Avoid tilting head backward

Duration of Use:

• Use for no more than 7 consecutive days

• Prolonged use can lead to rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa)

Side Effects:

Common:

• Nasal dryness or irritation

• Burning or stinging sensation

• Sneezing

Less Common / Serious:

• Fast heartbeat or palpitations

• Headache or dizziness

• Insomnia

• Rebound swelling of the nasal lining with overuse

Precautions:

  • High blood pressure

  • Thyroid disorders

  • Diabetes

  • Narrow-angle glaucoma

• Not recommended in:

  • Children under 12 (for 0.1% strength)

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding unless approved by a doctor

  • People with known sensitivity to xylometazoline or other adrenergic drugs
