Stomocaine Suspension

Type: Oral antacid and local anesthetic suspension
Use: Relief of heartburn, indigestion, gastritis, peptic ulcer pain, and bloating

Main Ingredients (per 5 ml)

• Oxethazaine (10 mg) – Local anesthetic that numbs the stomach lining to reduce pain

• Aluminium hydroxide (250–300 mg) – Neutralizes stomach acid

• Magnesium hydroxide (100–250 mg) – Neutralizes acid and relieves constipation

• Simethicone (20–50 mg) – Breaks up gas bubbles to relieve bloating and flatulence

How It Works

Stomocaine acts by neutralizing excess stomach acid, numbing the lining of the stomach and esophagus, and relieving gas. This results in quick relief from acidity, fullness, and burning sensations.

Dosage and Administration

• Adults: 5–10 ml, 3 to 4 times daily (15 minutes before meals and at bedtime)

• Shake well before use

• Do not exceed more than 80 ml in 24 hours unless directed by a doctor

Side Effects

• Common: Constipation (from aluminum), diarrhea (from magnesium), nausea, chalky taste

• Less common: Allergic reactions like rash or itching

• Rare: Temporary numbness or tingling in the mouth and throat

Precautions

• Avoid in patients with kidney disease or aluminum/magnesium sensitivity

• Take other medications at least 1–2 hours apart from this suspension to avoid absorption interference

• If symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks, consult a healthcare professional

Use in Pregnancy and Children

• Generally safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding when used briefly and as advised

• Not recommended for children under 6 years unless prescribed
