Augmentin 1g tablet

What is Augmentin 1 g?

Augmentin is an antibiotic that contains two active ingredients:

• Amoxicillin – a penicillin-type antibiotic that kills bacteria.

• Clavulanic acid – a β-lactamase inhibitor that helps amoxicillin work against bacteria that would otherwise resist it.

The 1 g tablet typically contains:

• 875 mg of amoxicillin

• 125 mg of clavulanic acid

Uses

Augmentin 1 g is used to treat bacterial infections such as:

• Sinus infections

• Ear infections

• Respiratory infections (e.g. bronchitis, pneumonia)

• Urinary tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Dental infections

Dosage

• Adults: Usually 1 tablet (1 g) every 12 hours (twice daily).

• Always take with food to reduce stomach upset and improve absorption.

• Swallow whole—do not crush or chew.

Note: Dosage may vary depending on the infection and your doctor’s advice.

Side Effects

Common:

• Nausea, vomiting

• Diarrhea or soft stools

• Headache

• Rash

Serious (Seek medical help if these occur):

• Allergic reactions: swelling, itching, breathing difficulty

• Yellowing of eyes or skin (liver problems)

• Severe or bloody diarrhea (possible sign of C. difficile infection)

Who Should Avoid It

• People allergic to penicillin or other β-lactam antibiotics

• Those with severe kidney or liver disease (unless dose is adjusted)

• People taking certain medications (e.g. allopurinol, probenecid, warfarin—interactions may occur)

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

• Generally considered safe, but always check with a doctor.

Tips for Use

• Finish the entire course even if you feel better.

• Drink plenty of fluids unless advised otherwise.

• Do not skip doses—set reminders if needed.

• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it’s nearly time for the next dose.
