Amoksiklav Suspension 457mg

Amoksiklav 457 mg/5 mL is a combination oral antibiotic containing amoxicillin 400 mg and clavulanic acid 57 mg per 5 mL. It comes as a dry powder that is mixed with water to form a suspension used to treat bacterial infections, especially those resistant to amoxicillin alone.

Indications

Used to treat:

• Respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections)

• Urinary tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Dental abscesses

• Bone infections such as osteomyelitis

Dosage and Preparation

• Reconstitution: Add boiled and cooled water in two stages, shake well each time

• Storage: Keep in refrigerator and discard after 7 to 10 days

• Typical dosage:

  • Children: 25 to 45 mg amoxicillin per kg per day in two divided doses

  • Adults and children weighing 40 kg or more: Up to 875 mg amoxicillin and 125 mg clavulanic acid twice daily (10 mL equals one dose)

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to penicillin or related antibiotics

• Avoid if you have had liver problems or jaundice from antibiotics

• Monitor liver and kidney function if used for a long time

Side Effects

• Common: Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, skin rash

• Serious but rare: Liver problems, severe allergic reaction, antibiotic-related diarrhea
